A pound for pound remortgage

The case:

We recently arranged a pound for pound remortgage for a couple whose existing lenders had declined to extend their mortgage on the basis of their age, and their atypical income.

Our solution:

Because there wasn’t a traditional employment income we instead analysed other sources including income from an investment portfolio, monthly pension and a property rental, which met affordability needs. From working through the case we also found it was actually financially more prudent for the couple to take a mortgage than to liquidate other assets and release a cash lump sum.
