Come fly with us
Working for a mutual is a pretty unique experience. We’re run solely for the benefit of those who borrow from us or save with us – we call them members. That’s it. We don’t have shareholders demanding dividends or forcing business decisions we don’t believe in. We reinvest profits back into the business, lending more mortgages, welcoming more savers, all guided by an experienced board who share our ethos.
Teachers is an extra special mutual. We’re just not like other building societies. We might not be the biggest, but we’re very agile when it comes to getting things done. We’re forward thinking and not afraid to be the first building society in the industry to do something. Like offer guarantor free mortgages to women or be the first to invest in a new top-in-class digital banking platform. We’re the only building society that operates nationally but has a dedicated focus on a particular profession: teachers.

We were founded by a bunch of forward-thinking rebellious types who saw something unjust – teachers who couldn’t get mortgages to buy their own homes and were leaving the profession – and did something about it. Their commitment to help teachers with smaller deposits buy their first homes still drives our team today.
Sound good? We hope so, because we’re a growing organisation. We are determined to help even more teachers buy their first homes and to do that we need more like-minded people to join our team. People with experience of financial services, people with diversity of thought. People with the desire to work for an organisation that’s dedicated to a good cause. People who are talented, agile, approachable and passionate.
What do you get in return?
We believe in nurturing talent, so you’ll be supported whether you’re starting a new career or looking to progress one with us. We’re a sociable bunch, so you’ll be invited to meet up with colleagues across the business – including the leadership team – both for fun and to feed back your thoughts on the Society.
We’re a flexible employer – whilst our main office is in Dorset some of our expanding team are based much further afield. If we’re right for each other, where you live isn’t an issue. Where possible we offer flexible working on hours too. Not everyone works 9-5, and the teachers we support regularly need help outside of school hours.
If you’ve read about our work towards supporting people and the planet you’ll know we get involved in a range of charitable and environmental activities that we’d love you to join in too, from beach cleans to tree planting, talks at schools to fundraising events.
It goes without saying we offer a company pension scheme to ensure we’re all thinking of our future, and a health benefit programme to provide extra support when needed.
Most importantly you’ll also get bucket loads of pride that the job you get up to do each day is making a difference. Remember the really great teachers you had in school, whose lessons you loved? Every day you’ll be making a difference to people like that, helping teachers like the ones who taught you in school buy a home to go to after a day in the classroom.
Are you ready to make a difference? Our current vacancies are listed below. Alternatively, email jobs@teachersbs.co.uk and we’ll let you know next time we’re hiring in that department.
